New knitting books:

I've been eying this sock book at various stores for over 6 months now. Many of you blog pics of completed projects from it and I am very happy to have it now. I like Charlene Schurch's open approach to sock design. I was shocked to find this Elizabeth Zimmerman book at Border's because, so far, I haven't had much luck finding her books at bookstores. But as I peroused their craft books and about 3 books from the end in the knitting section, I saw this and grabbed it up.

Happy New Year, Raleigh Style

Tonight, beginning at 7:00 p.m., Raleigh begins one of the Triangles biggest public celebrations of the year. Dancers, musicians, magicians and New Year's Eve revelers gather on Fayetteville St., in downtown Raleigh to ring in the New Year. With a kids countdown, a people's procession, performances by the N.C. Symphony Orchestra, and gatherings at both indoor and outdoor venues, this family friendly celebration hasn't suffered from the lack of alcohol since it started in 1997. Raleigh drops its giant copper acorn , pictured below at Moore's Square Park, after countdown ends at the beginning of the New Year, complete with fireworks. So come on down and party with us in our real big small town! We'd love to have you! :)

Nike + iPod Cozy

Hey guys;

Don't know if any of you have one, but Yarn A-Go-Go has a very nice cozy how -to for the new
Nike + iPod Kit. She adapted it from a toe-up sock pattern and used self-striping yarn. Very cool!

Gift Pics

Here are pictures of the 'One Skein' bags I made for my cousins. This is Nancy's bag in Lamb's Pride Bulky,wool and mohair, color: victorian pink.





This one is also Lamb's Pride Bulky, but the color is 'Aubergine' and was a lovely shade of a deep purple.
This is Susan's Bag. Her's came out slightly wider than Nancy's. They both liked them. I think the marqesite buttons were a nice touch. They were a little expensive, but well worth it.



This is a picture of Susan with her dog, Mozart (Mo for short).
He wore the elf hat, below, briefly, so I could snap a quick pic. I don't think he really likes wearing it, though.




Here is Sam, Ian, and Aunt Faye. Mo sat with Sam for a while. He had a good time visiting with everyone. What a sweet doggy!
Sam and Ian look like twins in their gifted matching coats. (they'll appreciate my putting that in print;->)

Nanny Update

I guess all your prayers worked...Nanny was eating her lunch at the kitchen table when I visited this afternoon... a relief to me as we were unable to revive her the day before. She gave us all a pretty good scare, to be sure.

Day After and Nanny

Here we are, the day after Christmas, and my livingroom looks like a bomb went off in there. We are talking empty toy packaging, (Emma wants to save it, don't ask me why), gift bags, empty coffee cups, toy how-to inserts, and yarn. (Last minute frenzy of gift knitting, don't 'cha know). Can't imagine having time for shopping and blogging as I contimplate how long it will take to clean up this...well, junkheap. Sorry, no pics...I'm too embarrassed. Unfortunate, because I did receive a new digital camera for Christmas. I'm happy with it, but need to learn how to use it beyond just point and shoot. Might visit my local camera shop for help.

Today, I'll be with Nanny. She had a bad day yesterday and Hospice is supposed to visit today. It seems as though she is entering her last days. She is peaceful, though, and I want to be sure to sit with her for a while. Please keep her in your prayers today. I want God, Jesus and the Angels to be with her.

Early Christmas Present

Lovely, lovely hand painted, superwash merino. I will have to find an extra-special sock pattern for this yarn. The picture really does not do it justice. This is from Three Waters Farm in Carrboro, N.C. The color is called Mediterranean and I also got another color called Forest Floor with beautiful browns and mossy greens. Of course, the rub is that I have too much Christmas knitting to get to it right now. Patience....must have patience!

I've Been Tagged...

Actually, this could be fun and a nice way to meet new bloggers:)

The Rules are as follows:

Six Weird Things About Me:

1. I am a writer, but I don't call myself a writer. I just say that I write a knitting blog. I think it is because if I admit that I'm a writer, others will expect me to write something noteworthy.

2. I cannot sleep in the sheets in my everyday clothes. I must be wearing pajamas. I can sleep on top of the covers (that's what we call it in the South) in my clothes and a blanket to cover myself, but never between the sheets.

3. I have to shake the container of half and half every morning before I put it in my coffee...same with Carnation Cinnamon Vanilla Cream Creamer (my fav). I have no logical reason for this.

4. When I put the cream in my coffee, I pour some in and *always* put an extra splash, sometimes two. This drives my husband crazy. (Maybe that's why I do it)
I do this with green peas, too. I put some on my plate, and realize I need just a few more....

5. I will not drink cooked coffee, stuff that sits on the burner for more than 30 minutes. If it was made an hour ago, the coffee is old.

6. My favorite snack is Ritz Crackers with a little peanut butter and mini marshmallows on top of that. (sweet and salty) They must be constructed, toasted in the oven til the marshmallows turn slightly brown on top and eaten immediately. Yummy!

Crunch Time...

This is the scene at my house as I knit away at the Christmas gifts I have yet to complete. There are only a few left and I will post pics as soon as I am able. This is the clutch in One Skein worked with Lamb's Pride Bulky. It's my first time working with this yarn, wool and mohair. I absolutely love it! The pattern worked-up quickly and easily and I have two more colors for two more totes, so I better scoot and get 'ta knittin':)

A Must Read!

You are looking at a closeup of thousands of mittens. These were knit by the Latvian people, one pair each, for the members of Nato delegations and media representatives. An unprecedented 4500 pairs of mittens were knit. This pic is just a small representation of the magnitude of this project! The Latvian people must truly be rich in character. New Avatar for Christmas Season

This is what I looked like last week as I was putting up the tree. Must ask for a pre-lighted tree for next year. This my updated Avatar. I wanted to add a knitted item, but couldn't figure out how to do it without changing the hair. I also had trouble linking to Yahoo with the url they provided. Copied this to Flickr instead and linked to it that way. I like the pink boots, though. Maybe I can find a pair at the mall....

New Internet Service and Email

Don't know if all of you are aware, but for the last few months, I have had to find wireless hot spots in order to do my blogging...no internet service at home. (Now you know why my blogging has been, shall we say, scant.) The closest hot spot is at our park and one of my neighbors will invariably stop to chat if they see me down there. Needless to say, not much work gets done.
Recently, we started with ClearWire and I love it. It's very fast and at my house which makes things oh so lovely for me:) Anyhoo, my email addy has changed. You can click on the link in my profile, should you need to reach me. I am getting used to the idea that I can now blog more comfortably at home. Thank Goodness! I really missed you all!

Amazing Space

As part of the Amazing Space event Somerset House, England, participants produced a knitted house. Passers-by were encouraged to participate in it's construction and were provided rocking chairs and various sundry materials to knit with, including nylon cord, grocery bags, duct tape and more, as well as broom sticks or any other large object to effect knitting needles. Awesome!!! The link is here, and displays 2 photo galleries of the project's progression, a list of participants with bio's and, you guessed it, a pattern, so you may make your very own.

Here, workers create knitted flowers for the window box. My favorite are the pom-pom mums. Ingenious!






I showed my photo of the finished architectural wonder to my daughter, Katie. Her eyes widened as she held the picture closer for a more detailed inspection and exclaimed, "Is that a knitted house?! You people are crazy!
